Houston Wedding Photographer | Pakistani American Wedding – Half a Rice Studios, Wedding at The Crystal Ballroom at The Rice
Stacy and Umair were two sweet, fun, adventurous people that I had the honor to document their special wedding. Unlike a traditional American wedding, Pakistani wedding includes multiple important events. The events can last at least 2-3 days depending on how the couple want to celebrate. Stacy and Umair’s wedding was the perfect combination of the two traditions. They spent the first two days to celebrate their marriage Pakistani way and the last day was an American traditonal wedding.

Mehndi & Pithi – Day 1:
When I arrived, Stacy’s friends and family surrounded her and showered her with love while an artist worked on her henna tattoo.
If you have not seen one before, henna tattoo consists of a lot of details. Hence, it requires the artist have to have steady hands and full attention of each stroke. The tattoo usually last a week, at most 2 weeks and it is a fun tradition in Pakistani/Indian weddings.
After the bridal shower/Henna, they went into Pithi. In this event, bride would dress beautifully with a lot of gorgeous jewelries. This tradition is mainly for good luck. Pithi is the name that comes from the paste bride and groom would use for the ritual. It includes turmeric, chickpea flour and rose water.
During the event, trashing the groom was the most fun part of the night. After Pithi, Umair knew what was coming so he prepared himself with trash bag and a mask. The guests then trash him with eggs, milk, chocolate, confetti, glitter… Whatever they can find in the kitchen or throughout the party, they throw them at him!
Sangeet – Day 2:
Sangeet is a big day for the Paskitani wedding. It is the main event of the celebration.
We arrived at Courtyard Marriot Sugarland with Stacy, her bridemaids and a few family member were getting ready. While the bridesmaid practiced for their dance of the night, Stacy dolled up with hair and makeup, she was gorgeous! And that paired up with her outfit, she looked like a princess! It was a great night with a lot of speeches, dancing and partying…
American Wedding & Reception – Day 3:
Crystal Ballroom at The Rice was the place for Stacy and Umair’s American wedding. Even though they already spent the previous 2 days to celebrate their love, this day was a brand new celebration. The feelings were still there: they were nervous, excited, and always eager to have fun!

I started my photography business purely with my passion for photography. A friend of mine asked me to do his wedding when I was in college and I fell in love. I love the emotions, the laughter, the tears, the chemistry between people in weddings.
